When I arrived in Katoomba on the first of many outings to the Blue Mountains since my return to NSW this year, I asked employees/owners at local hostels and backpackers to recommend places to mountain bike.
One of the best suggestions was a little tangle of single track dubbed "Scribbles." If you have a look at a map of the area, you can see how it got its nickname. The trails on the edge of the upscale town of Leura are fun and accessible for a range of skill levels. Most technical bits have "B lines." The views are outstanding, and the area drains well in winter. I can't say you won't get lost, but the area is fairly compact!
The Blue Mountains are famous for their slot canyons, waterfalls and vistas like the one above. And Scribbles, in fact, borders Minnehaha Falls. But as we drove down a dirt road to explore the area on a sunny Saturday morning, we did not expect to see this:
At first we thought we'd happened upon a terrible bike accident. Then we saw a massive make up tent. And another Zombie.
Maybe next time we'll get to be extras?!
